Renshaw’s innings was pivotal, as he formed crucial partnerships with teammates Alex Carey and Ollie Peake, ensuring Australia reached a competitive score. Despite a strong bowling performance from Zimbabwe’s Newman Nyamhuri, who claimed five wickets for 62 runs, the home side struggled to contain the Australian batting lineup.
In response, Zimbabwe’s chase faltered as they were bowled out for 235 in 45.1 overs. The team initially stumbled, losing four early wickets. However, a 98-run stand between Craig Ervine and Sikandar Raza revived hopes of a successful pursuit. Ervine contributed 59 runs before being dismissed by Nathan Ellis, who was instrumental in dismantling Zimbabwe’s batting order with figures of 5-31 from his spell.
Raza also put up a fight with a score of 57 before being bowled by Spencer Johnson, marking a turning point as Zimbabwe lost momentum in their chase. Ellis’s performance ensured that Australia maintained the upper hand throughout the match, ultimately securing a comfortable win.
The teams will face off again in the second ODI scheduled for Friday, with the final game of the series set for Sunday, both taking place in Harare.
