In a high-level meeting in Hanoi, Vietnamese Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng and newly appointed US Ambassador Jennifer Wicks discussed ways to deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and the United States. The Prime Minister highlighted the US as one of Vietnam’s key partners and emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation in several critical areas, including trade, investment, technology, education, digital transformation, and security.
Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng expressed the need for both nations to finalize a fair and balanced bilateral trade agreement, which he believes would provide greater certainty for businesses operating in both countries. This call for stronger economic ties reflects Vietnam’s commitment to fostering a robust partnership with the United States in various sectors.
The discussions between the Prime Minister and Ambassador Wicks also encompassed significant areas of cooperation in defense, cybersecurity, and law enforcement. Humanitarian assistance and efforts to address the legacy of the Vietnam War were also key topics of conversation, including ongoing dioxin cleanup, removal of unexploded ordnance, and the identification of missing soldiers from the conflict.
Ambassador Jennifer Wicks reaffirmed the United States’ dedication to expanding economic ties with Vietnam and supporting the nation’s development objectives. She emphasized the importance of collaboration in education, innovation, maritime security, and regional issues. In addition, the Ambassador pledged continued support for joint humanitarian programs related to war legacy issues, highlighting the commitment to fostering closer people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
